The Retro Collection - Kenner Is Forever!
I got into toy collecting because Star Wars by Kenner ended in 1985, before I was ready to be done with it.
Thankfully, Hasbro wasn't ready to be done with it either and in 2019, they started rerunning old figures and cobbling together new ones. Obviously this won't last forever, but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.
Currently, these pages are updated through June 15 2025. The last update was cleaning up The Characters with Multiple Figures List and adding a Just Different Enough to Make You Mad entry to the nav bar.

Remake Percentages
How much of each 1978-1985 Kenner movie line has been reissued so far?
Star Wars: 14/22 = 63%
The Empire Strikes Back: 10/29 = 38%
Return of the Jedi: 10/34 = 29%
The Power of the Force: 1/15 = 6.6%
Ewoks: 0/6 = 0%
Droids: 0/10 = 0%
Total Original Kenner Figures Remade: 35/116 = 30%
In case you're wondering how I'm counting - I don't count Droids Boba Fett and A-Wing Fighter Pilot as new figures, only as package variations. I do count blue Snaggletooth as a separate figure from red given how the colors and limbs are significantly different. I count the Max Rebo Band, Paploo, and Lumat as Return of the Jedi figures.
You can count as you please, but my my tally: 96 movie trilogy carded figures, 16 Ewoks/Droid figures, 3 Max Rebo band boxed figures, 1 blue Snaggletooth figure = 116 figures.
Stuff You Might Want to Know
How many The Retro Collection figures have Hasbro made per year? There's a handy graph on the bottom of our nav bar on the left. As of 2025, Hasbro has released an average of 14.5 The Retro Collection action figures per year. Coincidentally, if you count Kenner's entire 1978-1985 output it is also 14.5 figures per year. The year with the most Retro figures was 2023 with 36. 2025 has the least, with 6 so far.
Why are figure remakes from the original trilogy hard to get? 29 of 35 remakes of 1978-1985 action figures were exclusive or shared exclusives. The first six were exclusive to Target, and the second six were for Walmart. Many collectors never saw these in actual stores. Other multipacks of two to six figures were exclusive to Amazon, Shop Disney, and/or were shared with Entertainment Earth or Hasbro Pulse.
Are Hasbro planning on remaking every last figure? If they are, they haven't said it out loud.
How much did these figures cost when they were released? Individually carded figures were typically $9.99-$11.99, while the prototype edition exclusives were $11.99-$14.99. Figure 6-packs ranged from $59.99-$72.99. Figure 2-packs sold for $27.99 on Amazon. Board games with figures were $29.99, except for The Mandalorian Monopoly with a Remnant Stormtrooper - that was $49.99.
How does that stack up against inflation? In 1978, Kenner figures reportedly sold for $1.97 at Walmart. The US Inflation Calculator says $1.97 in 1978 is equal to $9.69 in 2025. In other words, they're basically the same price if you keep up with inflation.
Are there Hasbro vehicles, carry cases, stands, or playsets in The Retro Collection? No. The line has run since 2019 and there are no known plans for any yet.
Did Hasbro make Kenner-style retro figures outside of The Retro Collection? Yes, five. We got a "Classic 4-Pack" in 1995 Power of the Force packaging featuring Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker "cast from the original figures." They have unique coloring and modern-size foot peg holes. In 2010, Hasbro delivered on Kenner's promise of a Rocket Firing Boba Fett.
Have Hasbro done any official fan votes or Fan's Choice polls to select a new figure? No, but there was an unofficial fan vote on Instagram in 2025 that shows some fans still have good taste when it comes to figure voting.
Do the Retro figures have the same size foot peg holes as Kenner-era figures? Mostly - but not 4-LOM or Zuckuss.
Do you have a through list or guide of fan-made, non-licensed compatible line figures? No - but if you do, please point me to it. Stan Solo Creations and The Next 17 manufacture figures overseas that fit in with original Kenner and modern Retro toys.
Can you recommend non-Star Wars figures that are compatible with this line? Super7 ReAction Figures aim to capture the spirit of Kenner toys, several of which were sculpted by an ex-Kenner sculptor. Be sure to look at their Planet of the Apes and post-Funko Universal Monsters offerings. I highly recommend the Metaluna Mutant. Healey Made also produced a number of figures with the same ex-Kenner sculptor. If that's not enough, the Garden State Kaiju Mudbelly was sculpted, again, by the same guy.
