Hasbro Posts New Cantina HasLab Short Video

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, July 1, 2024

Hasbro Pulse put up a new video today showing some behind-the-scenes painting of its Cantina Playset on HasLab. And here it is!

The video does not include some key information, like the fact that this is a crowdfunded playset, you can see it on the Hasbro Pulse HasLab page, and as of now you have under one week to sign up for one. It's over 6,800, so - plus or minus the long weekend - I'm confident it should glide past the 8,000 unit funding mark. I have no idea if dealers and flippers will swoop in at the end to buy units to carve up for individual sale later, and am generally unsure fans are going to remember to back it before they leave for burgers and barbecues and whatever kind of "bang" they're going for this weekend.

As such, you may want to go ahead and back it right now before you forget. It's less than a week, it needs the support, and everybody is going to want those extra figures. Well, everybody who pledges will want the extra figures, everybody else has other things to worry about like getting potato salad together or whatever it is you're doing right now.

Q&A: Star Wars Cantina Ends in a Week (Get The Figures), Plastic Rubber

By Adam Pawlus — Sunday, June 30, 2024

This week in Star Wars Q&A - Tonnika hand-wringing. Should you wait for single carded versions at stores later? I wouldn't. And plastic is rubbery? Well, if you don't want it to break, yes - this is a good thing.

Hasbro Reveals SDCC 2024 Exclusives (No 3 3/4-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, June 27, 2024

Last year, our San Diego Comic-Con exclusive was Krrsantan with a variant head and some extra gear at a big mark-up. While it wasn't sold on the show floor, you could buy it in an off-site exhibition with decades of Hasbro and Kenner toys on display. (Before you say "no it couldn't," yes you could, I bought mine there.) This year, your exclusive is a 6-inch Darth Maul with a Sith Speeder! It's not uncool, but there was another Maul in another figure 3-pack pretty recently. IGN posted a story showing it as well as Death's Head (for Marvel Legends and Transformers fanatics), Cobra Commander (in a new-to-toy format), and a 2-pack of Megatron and Orion Pax for Transformers.

One nice thing about this set is that it comes in a very 1999/2000-style red and black box.  I don't know if there's a lot of nostalgia for it, but I quite liked it and had fond memories of the whole launch of the movie and its toys.

In case you forgot, GameStop got the 3-pack with Maul, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon earlier this year.  If you don't want the probe or the speeder, you might want to pick that up.

For those keeping track at home, these are new versions of existing characters, in some cases with new accessories - no character is debuting in this format for the convention, although hard core fans may appreciate some of the specificity and variations to be had. I was certainly surprised to see this specific Cobra Commander and this specific Death's Head finally, and I bet a lot of fans will really enjoy them.

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, June 27, 2024

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: RG-G1 (The Vintage Collection). You can still get it in a set from Amazon, and it's pretty great - they even gave him a new mold for the dome in addition to very distinctive deco. I like it. Read on!

Q&A: Star Wars Hyperspace Rings and Quality Figures

By Adam Pawlus — Sunday, June 23, 2024

This week in Star Wars Q&A - The Best Figure - what is it? Also put a ring on it - it being a Jedi Starfighter.

Also, we do have ramblings on the Cantina patron market flaring up and things starting to be unavailable on eBay because demand spiked and supply was never huge in the first place. Let's just say I hope you already bought Trinto Duaba with Dice Ibegon.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 3,147: Bespin (Silhouette II)

a href="http://figureoftheday.blogspot.com/2024/06/star-wars-figure-of-day-day-3147-bespin.html">Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Bespin (Silhouette II).This one is gorgeous - Mattel made a bunch of cars with little designs on them not unlike the old Burger King glasses, and this one comes from a set fo planet-themed cars. This one uses the Silhouette II car, which looks kind of like a single version of the Twin-Pod Cloud Car, and is based on one of the very first Hot Wheels cars. Also the design is beautiful. Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 3,146: Luke Skywalker (RacerVerse)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, June 20, 2024

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Luke Skywalker (RacerVerse). I really like this one too - I've been seeing him at Target if you want to go see one in person, and he's worth the six bucks. Sure, there isn't a full X worth of wings, but it's a charming little toy and the kind of thing that's fun to scoot around on your desk. It's more of an actual toy than a toy-shaped collectible, so if you have kids or tracks or race little cars, absolutely go get one of these. And if you're sick of car that's OK, we have one more Friday and that's it. Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 3,145: Millennium Falcon (Hot Wheels Carships)

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, June 19, 2024

a href="http://figureoftheday.blogspot.com/2024/06/star-wars-figure-of-day-day-3145.html">Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Millennium Falcon (Hot Wheels Carships). I picked this one up at 99 Cents Only stores (RIP) a few years ago and opened it a couple of months ago. It's pretty nifty - basically they slapped a racing stripe on the Falcon and slapped a metal ship on a plastic sled with wheels. It's pretty good - if you have a launcher, it'll go pretty far with a slight nudge. It's also one of the faster cars I've got when I tried it in a downhill race, but wasn't fast enough to beat the Slave I Carships toy I got. Read on!

From 1977: The Star Wars Bar (with Real Masks) on The Richard Pryor Show

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, June 18, 2024

You've seen the original film, and maybe the Holiday Special... but how about The Richard Pryor Show? In 1977 the comic was given the masks, with which he mixed-and-matched costumes, to make a comedy sketch that shows some extended shots of many famous rubber faces. It also shows how cheap the masks were when not edited properly, but you'll see familiar faces like Pons Limbic (Brainiac), Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead), and Muftak - with pants and suspenders, no less. I don't know how "canon" any of this is, but remixed aliens are a fascinating thing and you can see them below.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 3,144: Princess Leia (RacerVerse Blockade Runner Tantive IV)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, June 18, 2024

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Hot Wheels Princess Leia (RacerVerse Blockade Runner Tantive IV). It's Wheels Week, and this is the reason why - I saw her in a store and said "wait, what else have I missed?" It's basically a 1980s McDonald's Happy Meal toy, but with the quality of a Hot Wheels car, and also it's a ship you don't see as a toy very much. It's a winner. Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 3,143: Han Solo (Twinduction)

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, June 17, 2024

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Hot Wheels Han Solo (Twinduction). It's Wheels Week, so let's go through my stash of cars and see what was sitting around - this one is not the best, but it has some nice graphics on the card and on the side of the car itself. Read on!

HasLab: Hasbro Says Take This Band and Cram It

By Adam Pawlus — Friday, June 14, 2024

...in a handy alcove of the Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Cantina Playset, now open for crowdfunding!  Apparently you can fit all seven Modal Nodes members - if you had the foresight to buy them, like any other good hoarder - in one of the many alcoves included in the set.  It's a little smaller than what we saw on screen through the magic of movie editing, but it looks like they fit.  It also looks like the set displays quite nicely in chunks, possibly giving you a better display option than having it all set up like you might build a movie set.  Check it out.
