LucasArts was best known to fans as what confused people thought was the true name of the company Lucasfilm, but in reality it was the entertainment software branch of George Lucas' media empire. For much of its early life it was known as Lucasfilm Games, which spawned numerous memorable computer games like The Curse of Monkey Island, TIE Fighter, Maniac Mansion, and more recently Grim Fandango. Today, we learned that Disney will be shuttering the developer, instead licensing out its characters to other developers. The fate for Star Wars 1313 is not completely known although some reports have indicated it was far enough along to finish while others say it will be axed.

This deal is getting worse all the time...
It's a sad day...
First Lucasfilm Animation and
First Lucasfilm Animation and Clone Wars. Then LucasArts and all video game projects that were currently in progress. Next up: Darkhorse loses their license and all Star Wars comic series will immediately be cancelled so that Marvel can take over the license and start fresh.
So who is still happy about Disney taking over? :(
So far they've done nothing but clean house and axe a lot of stuff that fans love. It's a good thing Hasbro already has a working relationship with Disney/Marvel, otherwise the toy licenese might have been killed too and handed over to some other company or done in-house by Disney. Ugh.
On a related note, I'm wondering how secure Sideshow and Hot Toys' licenses are so far since there's been a major slowdown in new Star Wars product coming from them in the last several months since the Disney announcement.
