Image Bank: VC57 Dr. Evazan (Cantina Patron)

By Mike — Monday, April 16, 2012

He's a wanted man and has the death sentence in 12 systems, but Dr. Evazan is wanted by collectors for our own selfish reasons. We needed an upgrade badly since previous attempts by Hasbro made him more to be like Two Face's skinnier brother. Has it been worth the wait? I'll sum it up in two words: chest hair.

SCULPT/PAINT: We badly needed a proper Dr. E, and not even an "ultimate" one, just a better attempt at one. The POTF2 Cinema Scene and Cantina versions didn't bear the slightest resemblance and could be a better fit in the DC Universe than the Star Wars galaxy. Hasbro hits this one out of the ballpark with just an incredible likeness. Tore up face? Check. Receding hairline? Check. Chest hair? Check. Yes, chest hair. Tom Selleck would be proud and ugly never looked so damn good.

His molded outfit works pretty well and the side holster fits his blaster nicely. The paint is nicely done, with good sculpt detail to give his get up the worn galactic barfly look.

ARTICULATION: Granted, Hasbro didn't need to give Dr. E 14 points of articulation since he just pretty much stands there, shakes his finger and threatens to end your life. But they do and it's for the better. He can properly sit on a barstool, hang out with his wing man Ponda Baba, have a few libations and scheme their next dastardly deed. He has a ball pegged neck and ball jointed articulation on the shoulders, elbows, knees, and ankles. His wrists swivel to toss a good pint.

ACCESSORIES: Evazan comes with his SEC-14C Blaster that's a different color than the TVC Walrus Man.  Unlike Ponda Baba, he doesn't come with a glass of beverage.

CARDBACK: Since this figure was released last year, his cardback doesn't feature the 2012 "14 back" style. Hasbro used a nice photo reference from the film on both the front and the back.

TOPPING THINGS OFF: With an "ultimate" Dr. Evazan and Ponda Boba, recreating that Cantina Showdown has been upgraded exponentially. This figure has everything you want with the spot on likeness, good articulation, and of course, the chest hair. I highly recommend picking him up or pre-ordering him from any one of our sponsors if you want to avoid the wasted gas and collect nice unpunched cards. Easily our highest grade.

Mine too. The detail is just amazing. It will be interesting to see how he sells with kids and non-collectors.
