This week on The Clone Wars: adventures in Padawan-sitting! While last week's episode looked expensive, "A Test of Strength" cuts the budget by keeping us on a ship for most of the episode with fewer new characters added to the mix. The Tenth Doctor, David Tennant, guest-stars as one of the best new characters the show has ever seen while Hondo Ohnaka returns for a more villainous appearance. As always, spoilers and video await you!
Hey kids, it's the Emperor's Royal Guard! The new Vintage version is a pretty slick figure with all of the bells and whistles you might expect from a 2012 figure, with one major missing feature. What is it? Well, watch the review after the break, true believers!
The Silver and Red Droid Factory R2-Series Astromech Droid is very much like R2-M5, but it's a little bit more orange and has a hole in his head for the purposes of hats. This is a good reason to buy a figure. Hats = better. This one is shown in Mickey Mouse ears, but... geez, if that isn't an apt metaphor for the last few weeks I don't know what is.
Sith happens! Hahahaha kill me. This Darth Vader is showing up in greater numbers after debuting as a swell Comic-Con 2012 International exclusive. It's basically the Vintage figure with some new bits. Is it worth the $10?
We're happy to announce that the Galactic Hunter Forums and discussion boards have been re-opened. The forums are now in a brand spankin' new engine and has a lot of nifty new features, including some Facebook integration. Register today and let's get the discussions started. With all the exciting new announcements regarding Disney and a new Sequel Trilogy, there are a lot of things to talk about!
From our sponsors at Brian's Toys: This week features lots of new as well as restocked Gentle Giant, Master Replicas, and vintage items. A Master Replica Stormtrooper Blaster and Shadow Stormtrooper Helmet will turn some heads, but check out a nice collection of Gentle Giant stautes that include a new Darth Malgus and the old Jabba the Hutt with Slave Leia.
So let's talk classic cuts of the original trilogy in this week's Q&A, because, why not? Are we going to see drastic changes to licensing? And what kind of pod racer figures do you need to supply a kid with all the important stuff? All this, Iron Fists, and more in this week's exciting-ish column!
This week in Galactic Hunter Video Theater we're going to look at the biggest source of new footage in the 1990s with Star Wars Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire! This was a PC game which was ported to numerous platforms, including the original Playstation (which is where I played it). You played the disgustingly generically named "Rookie One" through a story which, I must confess, I had completely forgotten before perusing this video again. Like most Star Wars games in the 1990s, you get a ton of musical cues from the films and a story which basically remixed action scenes and space battles from the films with a few new bits and pieces, essentially letting you control a remixed version of the Star Wars trilogy. (As back then, there were only three movies.) Check out over 40 minutes of questionable acting and even worse special effects after the break!
Based on the last season of the original Clone Wars cartoon, this Anakin Skywalker figure is tarted up with leech secretions and looks pretty dang great! Sure, we got a "realistic" version later but this is where the unique look came from. You want one, right?
Reader Patrick Curatola sends the heads up that Costco is now selling their exclusive Jedi Force Epic Rivals set featuring Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, R2-D2, an X-Wing Fighter, and Vader's TIE Advance X-1 Fighter.
Sideshow is now taking pre-orders for their new Darth Maul Legendary Scale Bust. This latest addition to the 1:2 Legendary Scale collection is hand painted and individually finished in awesome detail.
