On Friday morning fans were in for a bit of a surprise, as the Republic Gunship jumped up and down, presumably adding non-Hasbro Pulse pre-sales to the grand total. At press time, it's at 5,384. It hasn't made the first goal of 8,000 yet, but it's a huge net gain over Thursday, which was just over 4,700.
There has been news. A sticker sheet has been added to the package, adding some deco options for fleet building. An "unboxing" video showing off the prototype in a home environment has been added.
There are about two days and 21-ish hours to go, and it's kind of an unknown how this is going to end up. It's trending behind other The Vintage Collection items, slightly ahead of The Black Series Rancor, but behind the funding goal of 8,000.
And of course, some of us are still waiting for our Cantinas to ship. (Me, I can't wait, I've been digging out all the aliens.) I'll be watching the ticker all weekend, because this is a surprising project that hasn't gone as expected. (And because the Cantina isn't here yet.)
Stretch goals are looking unlikely, but not impossible. The recent G.I. Joe: Classified Series Snow C.A.T. crowdfund crawled after a strong opening week, but suddenly jumped to meet all its goals on the final day. This sort of thing is unexpected and unprecedented - it's hard to tell if it's a fluke or not. Joe items are more likely to be carved up and sold in pieces, as some people just want a figure, and not the whole package. With this set that seems much less likely as the base unit includes a bagged and a carded Clone Pilot aren't particularly new or interesting without the ship.
We don't know if there are more non-US/non-Pulse orders to import. We don't know if anybody is going to lose interest if it appears it won'd fund or won't hit the stretch goals. And we don't know if a slew of army builders are going to show up Monday and build out a fleet of the things.
If you haven't seen the offer, it's $449.99 plus shipping, tax, and even more shipping - so a hair over $525 delivered to most U.S. homes. The plan for 2026 calls for a "Return to Geonosis" program, and we have seen a couple of preview cardbacks. I'm not expecting a ton of never-before-made characters, but I assume whatever we get will be better than previous versions.
