At the Star Wars Disney Store event, one of the better value items was a trio of what they refer to as Fig Sets. There are no fruity treats included as the name may imply, but rather six, roughly three-inch figures in a decent box for a pretty low price.
So far we only got a glimpse at sets from the original three movies, and it seems to be a stunning start. I should point out, these are not final and also not Hasbro product. Disney is making their own wares without Hasbro factories or Gentle Giant sculpts.
Similar sets have been in Disney Stores for their other properties for quite some time - Cars, Toy Story, even Marvel figures have made the transition to the "collectible" figure format popularized by such luminaries as Applause!, Dakin, and Comics Spain.
It was pointed out to me that the lightsabers aren't final - you'll note Obi-Wan Kenobi's and Darth Vader's are too thick, while Jedi Knight Luke's happens to be too thin - but otherwise this is basically what we can expect in Disney Store locations in a few months.
The Star Wars set includes Chewbacca, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. For replicating your Death Star scenes, this ain't bad - it's also notable that this kid-driven segment could very well eat Hasbro's lunch as Hasbro has been offering a mix of mostly Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars to kids lately without refreshing it, so it's possible that all-trilogy all-the-time could be exciting to the younger Disney customers. Heck, they've got my attention.
For The Empire Strikes Back Lando was left out, but the set includes a Stormtrooper, Boba Fett, Han Solo in Carbonite, R2-D2, Yoda, and for some odd reason the A New Hope version of Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing Fighter outfit. The figures are not necessarily consistent from which films their outfits hail, but hey, they're nice and cheap figures.
Rounding out the sets is Return of the Jedi with a stunning Gamorrean Guard, a slick Bib Fortuna, a good Jedi Luke Skywalker, a wonderful C-3PO, an OK Slave Leia, and a Jabba the Hutt that seems a little short in the tail department and, at least in this stage, lacking his signature tattoo. That's a decent chunk of plastic for $13, and a pretty good themed set - Luke is notable in that it's similar to the original Kenner action figures of 1983 and 1996, which feature his vest and a black glove at the same time. (Luke didn't don the black glove until after the Sail Barge battle, but lost the vest before dueling Darth Vader in the film's climax.)
While not perfect, the prices are certainly exceptional. Each figure has a lot of detail in its prototype form and the Gamorrean Guard looks stunning - if they can keep this look for the final product, odds are you'll be happy to shell out the $13 per set for some swell desk accessories for your office.

Special thanks to Disney for the early look at these items! More articles from this event are, believe it or not, still in the works.
