In an announcement that is so stunning and game changing in its scope that we had to check the date to make sure that it wasn't April 1st, Walt Disney Company has entered into an agreement to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. from George Lucas as we enter into Kathleen Kennedy's stewardship of the most beloved space fantasy franchise in history.

The partnership has already been in place and one that has proven successful for years ever since the launch of Star Tours in 1987 and Star Wars' presence in Disney's theme parks. Ms. Kennedy will become President of Lucasfilm, Brand Manager, and Executive Producer of FUTURE STAR WARS FILMS, including Episode VII in 2015.
