A link making the rounds to the site Tenth Letter of the Alphabet focuses on something which may be of interest to you called "Anatomy of a Logo: Star Wars." It looks at the evolution and many revisions of the famous logo, with lots of examples from licensed products you own or have owned with things like a changing, more pointy "W" and Marvel Comics' revisions to the classic eight letters we now all probably have, in some incarnation, by the thousand in our storage units.
Included are anecdotes you may have heard snippets from over the years, like the desire to make it look more "fascist" plus how it evolved ever-so-slightly during the original trilogy's merchandising onslaught. It's a good read. And you're probably up late, so why not read it?
