Comparing the new Vintage Collection Battle Droid to the first versions from 1999 is almost like comparing a Vintage Kenner Stormtrooper with a modern super-articulated version. They're just worlds of sculpt, design, and engineering apart. First revealed to us at Comic-Con over the summer, this all new sculpt achieves what no other iteration has achieved before; it can fold. Give Hasbro credit for ever evolving and giving collectors what they want. We now have a removable helmet Boba Fett, a Slave Leia that can sit, and now a Battle Droid that's collapsible just like in the film.
One other distinguishing feature this figure has from previous versions is it's slightly scaled down and a little shorter. We took a photo comparing it to a Saga Legends Battle Droid as reference. The variance is noticeable enough where an upgrade is called for your troop building purposes. Unfortunately, it's a costly proposition with TVC pricing at $10 a pop. We're hoping Hasbro continues to use this mold on a go forward basis and offers it as more value priced multi-packs in the future. Of course, finally releasing a large MTT to showcase our new better articulated folding Battle Droids would be even more superb, no?
