The MH16 Obi-Wan Kenobi comes with a cool Light-Up Lightsaber feature and an all new sculpt. There are two schools of thought when it comes to the latest wave of Movie Heroes. The ultra detailed, super articulated crowd have been at the forefront in recent years, especially with the premium stylings of The Vintage Collection. But a more traditional approach has emerged with Movie Heroes where the articulation is limited and action features have returned to attract a younger audience. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Sculpt: The headscupt on this figure bears a good likeness to Padawan McGregor. It even trumps the TLC/Vintage version. The skirt is a separate plastic mold that can be removed and the button to activate the Light Up Lightsaber is nicely discrete as to not take away from the overall aesthetic. Like the Power F/X figures from POTF2, the lightsaber is molded on and not detachable. The hilt looks wide and bulky but we guess necessary to accommodate the electronics. But the overall sculpt of this figure is worlds apart from those bulky, buff figures from that era.
Articulation: The 9 points of articulation won't allow too much poseability, but Obi-Wan does have a ball jointed left elbow and both knees to accomodate some. This is not the figure to use in an action diorama unless you can head swap to the more articulated TLC version.
Accessories: An adult collector looking for more detail and authenticity in their figures may easily cast away this figure, but this light up feature is vastly improved from those POTF2 FX figures. There's a cooler glow and luminescence to it when activated and the overall execution is good.
Topping Things Off: The headsculpt is great and the light up Lightsaber is fantastic. if you can somehow add more articulation and improve the look of that hilt, I wouldn't hesitate to say this is one of the better versions of this character.
